Laughing and smiling…….
It has certainly become apparent to me, when working alongside my clients, that laughing and smiling is something that holds so many therapeutic benefits for the mind, body and soul.
Firstly, I want to talk about genuinely smiling on the inside. By this I mean when we truly can be amongst others and feel that we are able to be our true selves, when we know that we are unconditionally loved for our whole selves, we are not being judged and we do not feel in danger of being made to feel like we are not good enough or not worthy of belonging. This, in itself, is a great subject for discussion. For the purpose of keeping this post to the subject of smiling and laughing, though, I have only touched on this slightly.
If we can honestly say that we spend a large majority of our lives smiling on the inside as well as the outside, then we can know that we are living a life that allows us to be our true selves the majority of the time. This one concept will lead to a life of fulfillment, health and joy.
There are many beautiful moments in every day to smile about. When we wake in the morning to a fresh new day, we have a choice whether to make it a day where we share joy and feel the happiness that brings.
Smiling at others is such a nice way to exchange a warm connection.
Laughing with others helps balance the sometimes seriousness of life with much needed humor.
It can be very easy to lose our youthful playfulness when we are faced with challenges and responsibilities. When we have goals we are striving to meet, it can also be easy to forget to live in the moment. By allowing the lighthearted fun to pay a gentle role in helping to relax our minds, we can nurture a way of using laughter to help us be who we truly are, while still allowing us to strive for better ways of living.
Laughter has a whole host of physical benefits on the body and mind.
So, go ahead. Find your laughing buddies. Connect with them on a regular basis. Laugh with your children, your colleagues and even people you don’t know. Share the joy and live in a way that allows more of this wonderful natural medicine into your life!
